Bk1: Ch9: Pg16
Arayanna: Hello?
Cliste: Hello. How can help you?
Arayanna: Yes. Um. I need a solicitor.
Cliste: You have found one. I am Solicitor Cliste Di'Doir. How may I be of assistance?
1b.
Arayanna: My friend has been arrested for murder.
1c.
Cliste: Please, come sit.
2a.
Cliste: What is your name?
Arayanna: Arayanna. Arayanna Theydrihn.
Cliste: Arayanna. And the name of the accused.
Arayanna: Maeye.
Cliste: No sir name?
Arayanna: No. She is an orphan. She was a Festiv.
Cliste: Alright. Maeye Festiva.
Cliste: And your relationship to the accused?
2b.
Arayanna: She is my whole life.
3a.
Cliste: Alright. Let's take it slow. Tell me what happened. From the beginning.
3b.
Arayanna [OFF]: Last night wee were eating dinner at the Beef & Burgundy on Ironbound Way.
Cliste [OFF]: Yes, I know the place.
Arayanna [OFF]: All was fine. I fact, we were having a lovely time. Then Maeye said she recognized someone and went to talk to him.
Arayanna [OFF]: I looked down for a second. There was a scream. I looked up, and she was standing over him covered in his blood.
4a.
Cliste [OFF]: Please continue.
Arayanna [OFF]: I ran to her. And she was in some kind of daze. She wouldn't come around.
Arayanna: Maeye! What did you do?!?! Maeye!!
Cliste [OFF]: So what did you do next?
4b.
Arayanna [OFF]: I grabbed her and I ran.
Barmaid: Help! Guards! Help! Murder!! Murder!!
5a.
Cliste [OFF]: And then?
Arayanna [OFF]: We didn't get far before the city guard found us.
5b.
Arayanna: Love, you stay behind me. I think I can take them. Just keep healing me.
6a.
Maeye: No, Aray. We are not going to kill these men for doing their duty.
Maeye: Besides, even if we win this fight, there will be ten guards around the next corner. And then twenty around the next. We'd never get out of the city.
6b.
Arayanna: But Maeye!
Maeye: No, my love. It has to be this way.
7a.
Maeye: Rescue me. I know you will find a way.
7b.
Arayanna [OFF]: The next morning I went to the prison to see if I could visit her.
Arayanna [OFF]: The guards refused me and told me to go hire a solicitor. So here I am.
8a.
Cliste: That is quite a story.
Arayanna: Yes it is.
Cliste: I have one more question.
Arayanna: Alright.
Cliste: Did Maeye say why she did it?
8b.
Maeye: Aray. It wasn't me. It was Ji'Ohna.
Arayanna[OFF]: Yes, she did.
Cliste[OFF]: Why?
8c.
Arayanna: Because she is possessed.
Cliste should be asking about a surname, not a sir name.
Damnit! I made a mental note to look that up because I knew it was wrong….and then my mental note apparently unnoted itself. 🙂 Thanks for the heads up!
I know some people can make mental notes that actually work — my late father was great at it — but in my brain, a mental note ain’t worth the paper it’s written on.
(To paraphrase Samuel Goldwyn’s famous quip about verbal contracts. )
Well, that explains it. Probably tricky to prove though.
Yes. For sure!
Isn’t there a way to communicate with Ji’Ohna ? That would help a lot for explaining why he (or she) did that.
More to come on why that won’t really help that much next page!
Oooh! Sexy lawyer!
I am glad you like her. Cliste is one of the reasons this whole storyline is happening. The other reason will be revealed on the next page. 😀
“So… going for the ‘Insanity Plea’?”
That doesn’t really help here in Foyyt. They’ll agree that you are crazy and then still put you to death. 🙂
Someone was having more fun in that tavern background than I remember from the previous page.
Also, any reminder of who Ji’Ohna is?
Yes, the spirit that was inhabiting the tree, that then possessed Maeye and took her flying (don’t remember her having a name though… )
Her name is mentioned here:
