Bk1: Ch11: Pg25
1b.
Charlie: Maeye! You've got something approaching the base of your tower.
Maeye: What is it?
Charlie: I'm not sure. Moving in for a closer look.
2a.
Charlie: Shit! I've lost Hawk 1!
Charlie: Arayanna, I have to re-route Hawk 2 to Maeye's position.
Arayanna: Got it. Do whatever you have to do to protect Maeye.
2b.
3a.
Maeye: Charlie, I do not see any...
Maeye: Wait...
Maeye: I see something, but it's not coming towards me.
3b.
Maeye: Oh no. Aray, there's one of those Mind Flayer things coming.
Arayanna: Are you sure?
4a.
Maeye: Yes. It's heading right for...
4b.
4c.
Maeye: Oh shit!
5a.
Arayanna: Maeye!
Arayanna: Maeye!!
5b.
Arayanna: Charlie, Maeye isn't responding. What is going on?
6a.
Charlie: I'm almost in range. Five seconds.
6b.
7a.
Charlie: Shit! Shit! Second drone is down.
Charlie: I'm going to help Maeye.
Arayanna: Hurry!
7b.
8a.
Arayanna: Dunverys, there is a Mind Flayer approaching our position.
Dunverys: Who the hell are you? How do you know my name?
Arayanna: Later. There's no time. You have to protect yourself.
8b.
8c.
Dunverys: It is too late.

Uh… did she just get possessed by the demons?
Yup. 😀
I hope Arayanna has exorcism experience.
Not so much possessed as mind-controlled. I guess there’s a subtle difference there.
Actually that’s good. Possession is difficult because you can’t just kill the possessor without harming the possessee. With mind control, you kill the puppet master and Bob’s yer uncle.
Good point!
So, not your typical D&D Mind Flayer then
Peach is going to save Maeye 🙂
This should be a lesson for people: sometimes, having a visible spotter can actually lead the enemy straight to the hidden sniper
Maeye should have pulled the trigger as soon as that face filled her scope.
She didn’t know what it was, or where it was
Doing something like that could get an ally killed
Where it was was right in front of her.
What it was was pretty obviously nothing good.
NOT doing something like that could get HER killed.
Again, she was looking through her scope
Also, as Feori said, it scared her and she jumped: remember, she comes from a world that doesn’t have firearms and has only had a few weeks of training
Plenty of accidental discharges have occurred when a shooter is startled by something.
But it’s not my story so..
Totally agree, but it scared her and she missed her chance.
Totally agree. I think if she was more comfortable with the weapon in general she may have had the reflexes to fire. But, being new to guns and this kind of combat I think it just spooked her.
Plus, I thought it would be a funny sequence. 🙂
Just thought of something: how did Dun not recognize Aray’s voice?
I think Dun is just confused. She just watched her sister get sucked into a magical portal a few moments ago, so how could this other person be her sister…
The next page will be out this weekend!
