Irio: Very handsomely. You receive a monthly salary and a bonus for each victory. The greater the crowd, the bigger the bonus.

This seems like a very bad plan.
To undertake a highly dangerous employment for an employer who almost certainly wants you dead and can arrange very dire danger indeed for you at any instant during that employment, is not consistent with a continued wish to live.
She is not a complete idiot. So I am left wondering why she said those words and what she actually intends to do. If the city is fortunate it may involve his death.

The Guardian makes his money from the contests and she just killed his champion…and his primary source of income. If she had refused he probably would have had them killed ASAP. With seeming to go along but asking to recover what would seem to be brutal wounds, she buys them time…perhaps to spring the prisoners? It’s hard to do the latter when you’re being watched closely,…or dead.

It may indeed seem like a bad plan to continue fighting in the arena but I think Aray has something devious in mind. Maybe in some way revealing the truth about the fight to the public during the match or saving the other prisoners from execution (if they are innocent or so).
I don’t know but in the panels 11, 12 & 13 I could see Aray think about something.
She’s always planning something. 😀
I’m interested in the repercussions of the ‘champion’ using magic which is forbidden in the arena. Basically the ‘Guardian’ cheated in his own games. Looking forward to seeing him getting his comeuppance. Who haven’t used that word in a long time.
We do like our Comeuppances in this comic. 😀
Probably just me, but, in the next to last panel, with the click before Aray telling Maeye to continue. It almost seems like Aray hit the unmute button on the remote.

We don’t know yet what the speed thing was. It was localized to his hand, but that could be
the bracer (visible, on wrist)
the cestis (visible, worn over gauntlet)
the gauntlet (visible, on hands) or
the line glove (been between hard pinchy gauntlet and tender … um,
ogre skin, okay he may have skipped line gloves when suiting up), or
a ring which may have been worn under everything else.
So whatever it is … where is it now?
Arayanna “disarmed” him and had access to any of these things IF she could somehow take it in front of the whole audience without anybody noticing. Especially the guardian who would know exactly what it meant if she took a particular piece of the ex-guardian’s kit. She couldn’t take the equipment off and sort through it right there on the sand, so what happened? Did she just carry the whole arm with her out of the arena? The guardian would know what was attached to it and might have, you know, said something.
But, if Arayanna, who is already preturnaturally fast, now has a speed ring to go with her sword, she’s going to be a sharp-edged pointy tornado when she goes to rescue those prisoners.
And is that ogre still alive? Does Guardian have magical healing for ogres too? It’d be sick if he “rearmed” the ogre.
Nah, Guardian more likely had the Ogre executed before they left the arena: can’t have his secrets being spilled faster than the ogre’s blood
