This page was a beotch. I hope you guys dig it. Much and many hours went into this one.
The fire, water and lightning effects look they were rough to do, but oh so worth it
Thank you!!
Septuple tap.
Rule #2 (modified)
Sound like a reasonable mod, considering the enemy. You also have to admire Aray and Maeye’s dedication to their mod of rule #1.
Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice, but if it’s that much bigger than you are keep squeezing the trigger until either the thing you’re shooting or the thing you’re shooting it with stops making noise.
Yup. Always drives me crazy in movies when the near victim gets the bad guy down and doesn’t finish them off. Keep attacking until there is nothing left to attack.
And, if possible, take their weapon! Specially if it’s a firearm, or at least nick the ammo if you have the same type
10 seconds swiping the ammo could save you later when you run out in the middle of a fire-fight
Proving once again that hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for .556 NATO.
5.56mm NATO.
Right!! 😀
Bah! Sissy caliber. Give me a couple of 30 round mags of .308 Winchester and I’ll really tear it up.
If you’re going to be serious about it, 12ga slugs…10ga if you’re really serious 😉
7.62 is far better than 5.56, especially if you can discipline yourself to semi-auto.
But there’s something about a slug that says: “fuck you and the guy behind you too”
Bigger isn’t necessary better for inflecting damage. The reason the NATO 5.56 is actually more devastating than the 7.62 is that the charge relates a higher muzzle velocity, but the small slug tends to rotate as soon as it meets resistance. This means that—while the 7.62 might make a bigger entry wound—the 5.56, spinning ass over teakettle, rips the shit out of everything behind the entry, resulting in far more damage. I’d much rather be shot in the abdomen by a 7.62 slug than a 5.56.
.303 British did that in WW2, the front part of the bullet under the jacket was wood, or sometimes aluminium, which shifted the weight rearward, great for increasing accuracy and it tumbled far more than 5.56 could ever hope to. That and 5.56 tends to ‘come from together’ pretty quick, especially if it hits bone, but .303 ‘explodes’.
I don’t particularly want to get hit by either but would take a 5.56 55gr tumbler before a 7.7mm 174gr cartwheeler that has been known to enter in the abdomen and exit the skull. I also have it on good first-hand authority that it wasn’t unknown for riflemen to run a charger (clip) of rounds along a grinding wheel to make ‘dum-dum’s’ for a little extra expansion.
Dumdums are a special case. Still, I’ve seen what a 30.06 or a 30.30 does to an elk and what a 5.56 round from an AR-15 does. The 30.06/30.30 round passes through cleanly, departing with an opening not much larger than the entry. The AR round trashes the meat. Generally speaking, I’ll stick with my previous assessment.
So, she was bait 🙁
Not intentionally. Aray wanted Maeye to stay hidden while she went to check out what was happening. But, it kinda ended up that way.
Woulda still been bait
Yea. Kinda ended up that way.
Don’t forget to double-tap his head… both of them!
Right! LOL. In my original script Aray did shoot him in the dick. I didn’t feel like painting that. LOL
It happens offscreen 🙂
has it been told what happened to this world to have such creatures and at war with humanity?
They are at war with everyone
It has been mentioned here and there. The people of Earth have been fighting the Horde invasion for many years. America, Central Europe, and Asia are still holding out. The East coast of America is still mostly free. Most people have converged in the coastal cities leaving the central states primarily empty. The West coast is mostly lost. The battle front ranges north to south about 100 miles west of the Mississippi.
The early years of the war went very hard for the people of Earth, but they are starting to turn the tide slowly. Humans now know the Riggorots are the source of the Horde’s ability to travel through portals and have targeted those creatures, severely limiting the Hordes’ ability to maneuver.
Yeah, that seems to be most of the cases of invasions against Earthlings: if you don’t wipe them out straight away, and give them a chance to recover, they will win and start looking for payback
I’d like to think that we as a people are resilient.
More that we don’t know when we are beat 😛
Kinda like cockroaches 😀
Yikes! So these beings Aray prepared Maeye for ARE a thing in that world!
Yes. Nasty nasties.
Pop pop pop? POP POP POP? Urg? As someone with permanent tinnitus from unprotected small arms fire, let me point out that small arms fire hammers the ears with more decibels than any rock concert on earth! “They never worry about that in the movies.” Rule number two for life in modern America: Hollywood lies.
It’s ‘popping’ because the rifle has been ‘silenced’
PS, who woulda thunked that made-up movies were fake?
There’s a trend toward suppressed rifles now that the gov’t has discovered that a ‘can’ is a whole lot cheaper than a hearing loss claim. Unfortunately, too many politicians think they’re real ‘silencers’ and work the way they do in the movies and claim that criminals will start using them if anyone else is allowed to have one, nevermind that an oil filter or a lawnmower muffler does a fairly decent job at a much lower price, they just don’t have a very long service life…but, I can get a hundred oil filters for the price of a decent suppressor.
And there are enough clips around showing how to make your own suppressor…
If you have a duty a small-caliber weapon is appropriate for (like pests or small game) and want to preserve your hearing, I suggest a .22 caliber Long Rifle round, fired out of a rifle that’s ACTUALLY LONG. They make a sharp ‘crack’ coming out of a typical 16-inch barrel, but exit a 29-inch barrel with a sound no louder than someone coughing.
Seriously, 60 decibels. I measured it with a sound meter once. People cough louder.
Remember Aray is accustomed to having the services of a magic-enabled healer, so cumulative hearing damage likely isn’t a thing for her. Tho I don’t know how well Maeye is going to be able to manage that in the magic-poor environment here.
Something tells me our invaders are finding ways to do magic even with the magic-poor environment – so once they figure out how these guys are powering up, she’ll know how to get that back in business.
I don’t know how cumulative hearing damage works for elves, but Aray was using hearing protection on the firing range, so… it may be a concern?
I have fired my fair share of AR’s and in my opinion they do make a “pop” sound. Far less explosive than a .45 or a shotgun. But, everyone’s experiences are different. 😀
Sorry to see the wounded woman dies anyway – finished by drowning.
Doubt she would have survived anyway
It’s not over yet. 🙂
Hope they at least get her name 🙁
