In this case I wouldn’t count the inset as a separate panel, in part because of the tight focus and close relation to the parent. “Panel 3” works as a whole, which happens to contain an inset.
I hesitate to butcher Feori’s excellent work on even a conceptual level, but imagine if the first panel of Fiet’s experiences with the lorsa were inset into the panel before. That’s kinda like an iris transition in a movie, and I’d count that as a separate panel. However, if the whole strip were like that β panels of one scene, with insets from the same time in another scene β then that context changes the interpretation of the insetting, and then I wouldn’t count that as separate panels.
That said, I’m barely even a disciple of Scott McCloud. It’s my intuition as a “native speaker” of sequential art that the inset doesn’t count as a panel, and apparently Shmagadjafka felt the same; for both of us, the tacit assumption that it doesn’t count was strong enough neither of us questioned the idea that the panel with Fiet’s look is the 9th. I’ve certainly seen strips of other webcomics that are hard to talk about, because everybody tacitly counts some of the insets but not others, and it depends on which ones.
That was my favorite panel of this page as well. That one, and I love the look of almost childlike pride that Skorr has when he is showing off his painting. And I think the painting is hilarious.
Feori, nice job on somehow managing to time this page to be both highly plot relevant and to fit the Easter theme. π A bunch of colorful, interesting eggs? Happy Easter, indeed!
Also, Aray looks beautiful in that armor. Granted, it does show a little bit of skin. But, they were limited to what was available and what would fit her. It’s more coverage than I’ve seen on other fantasy females. And sometimes flexibility and weight are more important than coverage.
Let’s just hope the dragon does not have a nasty breath weapon, else they’re going to need more shields.
It was the most practical, and still feminine looking armor I could find (that I haven’t already used in some other world setting). I think it’s pretty kick ass.
It does look like Nessie, doesn’t it! I was completely addicted to “In Search Of” as a kid (yes, I just aged myself) I have always been a huge fan of The Loch Ness monster and especially of Bigfoot. There are definitely Bigfoots in Prentil. This nod to Nessie was unintentional, but maybe it was unconscious.
Noticed that Sir Syril was the only one that didn’t say anything, soo he either doesn’t recognize what they are going up against or Araya, Kraghen, and Nihklas covered the whole situation.
I am going to have to come back and comment on this more later. There are so many enjoyable and interesting panels in this page! In the meantime, who else wants to jump in the water and get tingley with Fiet besides me?! π
Skorr is evolving in to an interesting character. He reminds me of Killer Croc from Suicide Squad with a hint of goofy, wanting to please puppy dog thrown in for good measure. Such awesome expressions as he ponders in panel 2 and then shows off his “artwork” in panel 5. Fiet is adorable in her fierce protector mode and then equally engaging as she enjoys her dip in the magical waters. That whole scene had me longing for a magical bath of my own! π
Hey gang. What do you think we can do to help with the voting? I don’t want to just keep posting nekkers pics of Maeye and Aray. Any suggestions? Should I just post some other characters from the story? Chars we haven’t seen yet? Who’s got ideas?
What about doing a series of theme based incentive renders? For example, the seasonal/holiday ones you have posted in the past have been some of my all time favourites (Snowball fight, valentines day, holiday baking, etc.) or you did say you would get back to finishing that strip tease series some day. π I will keep thinking, but those are things that came to mind immediately when I read your comment. This comic certainly deserves to be ranked higher. The story line and artwork are beyond compare!
Thank you. That is very kind of you to say. I think a series is a good idea too. The striptease one – not sure if I want to go back that far – the girls have gone through a few technical changes since then. Got any other series ideas?
I know that for me, the nudie voteys are the least interestingβ¦ My favorite is when they’re doing something else together(snowball fight and holiday baking are of this type), and they’re clearly romantically involved but that’s kinda separate π This, of course, doesn’t require them to not be nude, but it’s more like incedental nudity. Aaand now I’m imagining them snuggled together on a blanket in a meadow, cloudwatching, Maeye pointing out something, and nearby is an eaten picnic and their clothes π
On another note, remember the idea for the “Maeye Γ Anifreik grooming” votey? You did say “Keep reminding me til I do it.” π
All that said, my take is it’s not the voteys, it’s the update rate β not in terms of amount produced per unit time, but number of updates. This one could easily have been released as three updates over the same period of time, and then less-patient people β or just people who read fewer webcomics, I’m over 60 in my daily list β would find it easier to maintain attention. There’s a special place in my list for Prentil, but I know with a lot of the webcomics in that list if there isn’t an update that day, I just close the tabβ¦
I’ve thought about the update rate a number of times, but I like delivering a sizable piece of storyline with each release, so I think I would end up completely ignoring the rest of my life if (family, work, music…) if I tried to release weekly. But, I will consider this again. Thanks for the advice!
Yeah, the idea isn’t useful without reducing the size of each update. Maybe, release each update over the course of β3 days, adding a handful of panels each day to produce a complete update this size?
Whenever I read a new update, of pretty much any webcomic, I open the Prev link in new tabs until I can read it starting by rereading the last one I already read. (In case that’s unclear, an example: When bk1-ch6-pg3 appears on the site, I open bk1-ch6-pg2 in a new tab, reread that, then read bk1-ch6-pg3.) Not sure how common that behavior is, but it does give me “a sizable piece of storyline” each read. Not sure how to use that information, thoughβ¦
I like the way your imagination works Darekun. π That blanket snuggle, cloud watching scenario sounds amazing. Thank you for giving me that visual to ponder!
We get all kinds of Aray and Maeye in the comic. What about a side series about one of the other characters? Anyone interested in that? Fiet? Sha’ag? Dunverys? Maybe it’s time for a vote! π
I am partial to Aray and Maeye. The renders of them together doing something (as Darekun stated) make me the happiest and keep me engaged to come back and vote every day just to see them again and again. Anything you come up with will be smashing. Quite interested to see how the poll turns out. Depending on the results, I might share some other ideas I had. π
Happy Easter, friends! This year, we are having poached Fiet for Easter dinner. π
Has everyone got their asbestos undies?
Well if Fiet has any, she ain’t wearin them! π
I was mainly referring to the epic dragon hunters.
Oh! Yea – that would probably come in handy…
Fiet on 9th panel is adorable… that look of hers…
I had to go back and count panels, but yup, you’re thinkin’ of the one I’m thinkin’ of <3
Okay, so people never count inset panels? o_O
That is a deeep rabbit hole.

gush… i had to read it more than once to get the idea, but still didn’t get it… π
only glad, that we agree on Fiet…
Short answer: Sometimes yes sometimes no, and I don’t get it either O:J

If it has a nasty breath weapon, not even Sir Douche or Squire Buckethead would be safe
That is unlikely simply based on the incredible pain in the ass it would be for me to paint that in. π
It was the most practical, and still feminine looking armor I could find (that I haven’t already used in some other world setting). I think it’s pretty kick ass.
So THAT’S where Nessie got off to. π
Sloama bears a passing resemblance to a Plesiosaur without the rear flippers. I’m looking forward to seeing your rendition of this creature.

Yea – Sir Syril is staying quietly out of the limelight lately. We will have to see what he is up to.
Sounds to me, like this is the first time he has come across real monsters and not just some poor old woman branded a witch
There are some monsters in Prentil for sure, but Sir Syril has been working a mostly human populated area for some time.
I am going to have to come back and comment on this more later. There are so many enjoyable and interesting panels in this page! In the meantime, who else wants to jump in the water and get tingley with Fiet besides me?! π
count me in… π
Mmm, what a grand invitation, in at least two senses <3
If only that could be arranged for you. π

Just remember: if they start tossing in vegetables, RUN!!
Hehe! Good point. π
LOL!
That is a great description!
Fiet dear, while you are enjoying the tingly bubble-bath, who is watching over Maeye? o_O
I think she is close enough to keep an eye on Maeye. Her diverted attention will not last long.
Well that’s good then π

Hey – I also want to update my samples on TopWebComic. Who’s got some favorite pages they think I should use?
