OK, after a… nearly 4 year hiatus, I have come back to Prentil and caught up in about a week. Egads.
Aray for whatever reason assumes that The Merchant is malevolent straight away. Why could he not be bartering with the souls he collects? Give them a chance to stick around in a piece of jewelry or somesuch, to be summoned indefinitely, allowing a person to experience life eternally and so on? Who is to say that he even takes the whole soul? As Aray explained to Maeye, a summons focus only contains a sliver of a soul. Someone calling himself “Merchant” wouldn’t necessarily just…. Take souls.
Or maybe he would and he’s an evil summ’itch. We’ll find out soon enough.
