Bk1: Ch9: Pg21
Soldier 1: This one is done for. Why are we even bothering?
Soldier 2: Captain says she stays here dead or alive until after the trials.
1b. Soldiers dumping Seydah.
Soldier 1: Well, she'll be dead soon enough. That woman with the weird pointy ears crushed her throat.
The Next Day
3a.
Cliste: You did very well yesterday. I was impressed. Where did you learn to fight like that?
Arayanna: You really would not believe me if I told you.
3b. A
Arayanna: In case it rains again.
Cliste: That breakaway shirt from yesterday made you quite popular, but I think this will still work.
4a.
Arayanna: So who am I fighting tonight? Another trained assassin?
Cliste: No. Tonight's fight is very different.
4b.
Arayanna: Oh?
Cliste: Your opponent is man named Raker Tin'Weh. He is championing his wife, Mercy Tin'Weh.
Cliste: Mercy is accused of murdering a local minor noble, Arro Stonarc.
Cliste: According to Mercy's testimony, Arro was attempting to rape her and she defended herself - with a marble rolling pin, no less.
5a.
Cliste: According to the testimony of Arro's widow, Lady Sinnell Stonarc, Mercy was infatuated with Arro and killed him because
he spurned her love.
Arayanna: So is she innocent?
Cliste: I am not sure. Although there were no actual witnesses to the murder itself, Lady Stonarc was able to produce witnesses that
testified to support her story, so the court ruled in her favor.
Arayanna: But???
5b.
Cliste: I know the Stonarc's. Arro is notorious for pushing himself upon women and Lady Sinnell is certainly not above buying witness
testimonies.
Cliste: I'd have to say I believe the Tin'Weh's over the Stonarc's in this case. The Tin'Weh's seem like decent people who are very
much in love with each other. And Arro Stonarc is not exactly the kind of man that women fall
helplessly, murderously in love with.
6a.
Arayanna: Great. So in order to save Maeye I have to help a corrupt court put an innocent woman to death?
Cliste: I am sorry, Arayanna. It is certainly a flawed system, but it is the only way I see right now to save Maeye.
6b.
Cliste: And there is one more thing.
Arayanna: It get's worse?
Cliste: Yes.
7a.
Guard: Now entering, Raker Tin'Weh, champion of Mercy Tin'Weh, accused of murder of a noble.
7b.
Guard: Now entering, Arayanna Theydrihn, champion for Maeye Festiva, accused of murder.
8a.
Raker: Good luck.
Arayanna: Same to you.
Irio: This battle will be fought with blunted weapons.
8b.
Irio: Begin!
Time to go up the wall and take on the judge…
No, that’s the ‘one more (worse) thing’: weapons
Yea. I think Aray would definitely prefer to be fighting Irio than Raker.
Maeye saving the girl is very nice but after healing, will she need to fight again ?
In panel 8 Cliste’s you needs to be your (opponent). In panel 14 now misses w.
Nope, she had her match, and lost, what happens after is nothing to do with the case
Yea, according to the law, Seydah – and any other losing combatants and accused that lost but managed to survive – will be executed the day after the final battle.
OMG THE TYPOS! I so suck at this. LOL.
Typo in panel 14 – should say “Now entering”…
Another one in panel 10, is “believe the Tin’weh’s love the Stonarcs” should be “believe the Tin’weh’s over the Stonarcs”.
Spell checkers are a good thing and I never knew it was possible inside Photoshop. But they won’t help if you accidentally make a word into another word, at least not when it also happens to be grammatically valid.
Yup. I need a secretary. The wife is always willing to review pages for me, but it seems like I am always finishing up in the middle of the night and rushing to get the page posted because I am late…always.
Anyone who thinks ‘blunted’ weapons are less deadly has never been in a fight with a someone trained in stick-fighting (least of which is the basic, humble, quarterstaff, or the even more basic: club)
True that. I trained with Kenpo Fighting Sticks for many years. They are brutally effective. Movies make people think they can take a crack across the face from a hardened bamboo rod and keep on fighting. Ain’t happenin.
Seydah is lucky they dumped her close enough to Maeye, rather than on her bed
Right! 🙂 Gotta love those little plot devices. 🙂
