Bk1: Ch9: Pg9
Sorry this is so late!!
Maeye: Brrr. It's always so cold in here.
Korrinisa: That is Shissera, the great frozen goddess who lives in the lake.
Arayanna: Have you seen her?
Korrinisa: Oh yes. All Loreshi women visit Shissera many times in there lives.
Arayanna: Can others visit with your god? I felt her when I cleansed myself in the lake. I would like to see her myself.
Korrinisa: I do not know. No one has ever asked this before. I will ask my people.
1b.
Korrinisa: I am very excited to be coming home.
Korrinisa: I have not seen my home since you helped my people reclaim their city.
Korrinisa: I think you will be impressed.
2a.
Korrinisa: There it is. Loresh. My home.
Maeye: Wow!
3b.
Kraghen: Uuugh.
Jaskar: Hey there, big fella. Go easy now.
4a.
Jaskar: Just rest easy.
Kraghen: Water.
4b.
Jaskar: Sure. Sure. Just stay put. I'll fix ya up something that will help ya.
5a.
Jaskar: You were pretty banged up there, fella.
Kraghen: Do what you can, quickly and quietly.
5c.
Jaskar: I wasn't sure you were going to make it, to be honest.
6a.
Endora: I've done what I can for now. With time, maybe I could do more...
Korrinisa: That will have to do. Thank you.
Jaskar: But it's not in me to give up on a fella, I says, so I brought you here and did what I could.
Jaskar: Strong as an plow horse, this fella is, I tells myself. He'll pull through.
6b.
Jaskar: Here ya go, big fella. Drink it slow now.
Jaskar: I added some springberry and ogreroot to help your strength.
6c.
Jaskar: Well fella, you're lookin better already. Strong a plow horse, I tells myself.
7a.
Maeye: This is amazing! There are so many of your people!
7b.
S: Korrinisa!
Korrinisa: Sas Norash!
8a.
S: Dashi. Sassla.
Maeye: What is she saying?
Arayanna: You did not study, did you?.
Maeye: Oh don't be so smug about it. You knew I wouldn't.
Arayanna: Yes, I knew.
Arayanna: She is welcoming her daughter home.
8b.
S: Senasha Morlansh Senasha, Skan Ledren Skan, sa sassla.
Maeye: Thank you. It is good of you to welcome us, Shara.
Maeye: Kansa, Shara. La si koor, lorsa sassla.
8c.
Maeye: No study...
Everybody loves a smartass. My Momma said so, and I never did know a bigger smartass than Momma.
LOL! I got the “No study” line from Ghostbusters stuck in my head and just had to throw an homage in here for Bill.
Well done.
Thank you! 🙂
I was thinking the same thing
😀
This page features new Genesis 8 Kraghen. I think he looks great. The difference between the Gen 2 and Gen 8 models is incredible.
Damn, didn’t notice until you said something, so went back and had a look: he looks like the poncy Green Arrow (the poncier one from the TV show, not the one who thought he was Robin Hood reborn in the comics and cartoons)
Krag’s look is going to change a good bit as a result of his battle with the werewolf. I think he’s gonna look cool. 🙂
Just as long as he remains himself
Oh yea. Personality won’t change much – he will be effected by the loss of Cat – but otherwise he will still be the same grumpy badass he always was.
Was… more meaning he didn’t get ‘bit’ and carry that curse
And, sorry, here are the typos. In the 1st panel ‘it always so cold’ should be ‘it’s always so cold’ and ‘shissera’ is also written as ‘shisshera’. In the 10th panel ‘I says’ should be ‘I say’ and (also in the 11th panel) ‘I tells myself’ should be ‘I tell myself’.
last panel : “I tells myself” is perfectly acceptable in the Northern Peasant tongue and is quite common.
“I tells meself” would be more reminiscent of the Western Peasant dialect.
“I tell myself” is more often found in the formal High Peasant which is not often used publically in this area.
It suits the character better too 😉
Interesting! Are you a linguist? Or is it just a hobby? I should study language more. I just write what I hear in my head. :). Coincidentally I am watching Tolkien as I write this. 🙂
Just make stuff up as I go along like any good D&D player 😉
Right! 🙂
Never heard about those dialects before. Thanks for the info. It helps understand how it is and was written.
When I read the sentence I had a feeling that it was correct but I couldn’t find out if it was and so thought that it needed to be written with current grammar and spelling.
Well, most languages in this world have regional variations on their dialects, English being one of the worst…there’s a huge difference between say Highland Scots ‘English’ and ‘Cajun’ even if they both have smatterings of other languages thrown in…
There’s an old saying “English doesn’t really have it’s own rules, it follows other languages down dark alleys, mugs them, then goes through their pockets looking for loose words and syntax”
There’s a great book by Bill Bryson called ‘The Mother Tongue: English and how it got that way’ entertaining and informative. You can find pdf’s or downloads easily with a search so I won’t bother with a link…
A lot of fun in text based RP games (for me, anyway, not so much for those trying to read it) comes from giving the chracters ‘accents’ when you type for them…saves correcting typos too 😉
I didn’t see any reason why there shouldn’t be regional variations in this world either…that sort of eliminates a lot of complaints about ‘typos’ and makes it easier on the artist, hence suggesting the various forms of the ‘Peasant’ tongue 😉
And of course Maeye, as a Bard, would know or be able to pick up languages easily as a class skill so the last panel works particulary well at highlighting her abilities 🙂
Plus, it slows down the pedantic grammarists who keep bleating on about their grandmother
Thanks for the heads up on the first two typos. The mistakes in Jaskars speech are intentional. He’s a bit redneck, as we would say around these parts. 😀
Gets in the Ghostbusters reference. Nice.
Thank you! *bow* 😀
So an interesting thing happens when they first enter the cave. Did anybody catch it?
First panel? Looked, can’t see anything that stands out
Is that Shissera in the lake right by the left side of Aray’s second speech bubble ?
Thought that might have been something, although even zooming in doesn’t seem to show anything (or anyone) at that spot
It’s… really difficult to tell what we are supposed to be looking at: kinda looks like a goblinoid head at what would be the bottom left corner of the speech bubble (if it had corners), also may be the top of a head just breaking the surface at the top left corner
I also see a face in the wall at the right side between the first and second speech bubble of Shara (if I have her name right).
It’s nothing visual. I’ll give a hint – it has to do with what Maeye says.
Maeye saying “It’s always so cold in here” and those kegs looks like Maeye actually means “It’s like a fridge here”. Other than that I can’t see anything else in her words.
Yes! And Maeye doesn’t feel cold anymore!
