There are a lot of special FX on this page and it all looks exceptional. All that smoke and fire could not have been easy to do. Nice work! And blurring out the background in panel 12 was a nice touch – it adds emphasis on Maeye in her worried state over Aray.
Also: At this rate, Maeye and Aray will become known throughout the region as associated with magic – and maybe as heroes. The former will get them in big trouble, though. For that matter, getting a certain town’s mayor burned at the stake might make some local rulers nervous (never mind that he had it coming).
Aray and Maeye are definitely making a reputation for themselves. Luckily, word travels slowly in these parts so their fame is still localized. Being famous for performing acts of magic, no matter how helpful and benign they are, is not a good idea in this day and age. Hopefully the good people of Bentl will be more accepting.
On another subject: A father telling his children to wait for him? Some people sneaking out the back…? Why do I get the impression that some people intentionally set this fire to get rid of certain someones?
@crowbar in more ways than one, the fire and remember there is a punishable by death, sentence on Mages, Wizards, Witches and Sorcerers in this country.
I have an image stuck in my head of Maeye in anachronistic fire fighters clothing carrying Aray out of the burning building. :sigh: I’ve been writing too much crossover fiction, nevertheless this is an exciting and superbly done page in a fantastic story.
Oh that is just fantastic, I don’t know what it is about fantasy characters with a slight modern touch. Thanks for putting in the time and effort to make this, i’m glad you liked the idea enough to do it.

Thank you very much for the compliments!

No one said anything about anyone ‘sneaking’ anywhere, just that some managed to get out via the back door
I think the dad was off trying to find a safe way to get out.
Makes sense, but, was he overcome by the smoke or someone else? o_O
I agree — the fire and magic effects on this page are superb. And it looks like things are heating up for our heroines…
Thank you very much!

Yup. We’ll see how these folk take to being rescued by magic users.
Hmm, no comment about Maeye healing that kids hand, just the two glowing critters making a giant water-ball out of the river
Is that the dad in panel nine? 🙁
Sadly, yes. That is dad.

You mean like this? 🙂
Nicely done! Love the outfits. 😀
So hot, can feel the heat from here 😀

I was pageview 1,333,100 today 🙂
Wait, you are fascinated by numbers as well?
I am!
Fascinated by number patterns, but can’t remember half of them afterwards though 🙁
Um, Aray *is* on fire, and not in a good way.
Sings:
Come on and fly me a river
Fly me a river
I’ll fly a river over you.
LOL!
